A wedding, a new house, and a new job. Angela Flores had a busy few months. It’s clear that she isn’t afraid to make important life choices. At Essent, she made the step from Journey Consultant to Product Owner Apps—a move she’s thoroughly enjoying. You can read her story in This Is My Step.
From mortgages to energy
Angela Flores worked for a broker specializing in mortgages, insurance, and loans. While she enjoyed her time there, she was ready to move forward. Angela explains: “I learned a lot there, but I outgrew the job. I find it incredibly valuable to map out customer journeys and use them as a guide for making process decisions. The organization wasn’t quite there yet, so I started looking for a company that truly focused on this. That’s when Essent came into my life, and I was hired as a Journey Consultant.”
At the heart of Essent
Angela worked on projects for E-Mobility, MediaMarkt, and an administrative project related to the residential status of customers’ homes—essentially right at Essent’s core. She shares enthusiastically: “That job was fantastic. You collaborate with various disciplines within Essent, and you’re closely involved in the operational side of things. This gives you a lot of insight into customers’ experiences. It’s so interesting.”
Keeping an open mind and taking the leap
So, why did Angela want to step into the role of Product Owner Apps? Speaking with even more passion, she explains: “A lot of communication with our customers happens through our apps, and they’re becoming more important every day. What an opportunity it is to work on that as a Product Owner. I saw the vacancy on our internal job board, and then I had coffee with some involved colleagues. What they told me really resonated with me. After that, I applied.”
Support from all sides
Her new role is an exciting step, Angela shares. Was she nervous about making the leap? “No, I was confident I was a good match for the position. At Essent, you can be open about these things. My manager was sad to see me leave, but I had the space to explore and take the step. My new colleagues also took the time to brainstorm with me, and I had an excellent handover from my predecessor.”
A great choice
Angela says her move was a good one: “It’s a very interesting and challenging role. I meet with stakeholders to discuss the development of new features for the app and ensure deadlines are met. The rebuild of the Essent app had just been completed when I started. Now, we’re working on exciting new developments for all brands.”
Continuing to grow and thrive
Angela isn’t entirely sure what her path will look like, but she’s certain her growth is far from over. “There’s no set path, and for now, I’m happy where I am. But at Essent, there are plenty of opportunities. Managers and colleagues think along with you, but you’re in charge of your own journey. My tip: take initiative, share your ambitions, and go for it!”
