How do you two know each other?
Daniel: “We worked together at a previous employer. Guillaume wasn’t in my team, but his wife was. That’s how we know each other. We both went our separate ways, but when Guillaume got in touch and asked if I knew of any good jobs for him, the connection was made quickly.” Guillaume: “I moved from the Netherlands to Italy and after a few years, we wanted to go to another country. We really enjoyed living in the Netherlands, so it was high on our list. Ludovica, my wife, had a good feeling about Essent because Daniel spoke about it with such enthusiasm. I took the plunge and contacted Daniel.”
Did you feel good about Essent straight away?
Guillaume: “Absolutely! I hadn’t worked in the energy sector before and didn’t know what to expect. I might have expected it to be a bit less professional. But Essent turns out to be a tech company at the forefront. Sometimes you see a job advert and it tells a great story that doesn’t match reality. Here, it’s the opposite: the position, the department, the content of the work are all high end.” Daniel: “That’s exactly my experience! We’re part of E.ON, which is of course a mega-organisation, but Essent often takes a leading role in IT. We are the Lab of Europe in the IT field.”
So, was it a good tip from Daniel to apply at Essent?
Guillaume: “Definitely yes! I’m having a great time and I’m learning new things. I’m now working on everything around the home battery. That’s new for Essent and for me. Very interesting.”
You’re an active referrer of candidates Daniel, how come?
Daniel: “I really enjoy working here. They get it: in IT you have to change constantly. The technology changes every day. That change, flexibility and adaptability is in the DNA of the IT departments at Essent. That’s only possible if you work with the right people. So, referring good colleagues is also a bit in my own interest, haha! I like working with nice, smart and good people. I have that feeling with Guillaume too.” Guillaume: “And for me, it was super helpful to have someone to spar with about the content of a job, someone who speaks from experience. By the way, I’ve also referred someone myself: my wife. Actually, there is now a kind of referral cascade: Daniel was referred himself, he referred me, and now I’ve referred someone.”
And that €1,500 bonus Daniel, did you do anything fun with it?
“I bought two tickets for a festival in France. So I’m going to the country where Guillaume originally comes from!”
