Essenters about ownership

Maroucha (Process Consultant) and Evelien (Scrum Master & Data Engineer) talk about taking ownership, working agile and having an entrepreneurial spirit.

''We are a kind of small organization within the big Essent company"

Taking ownership

"What ownership at Essent means for me is feeling responsible for the things you work on and that you push yourself to get the best out of it for the customer", explains Evelien passionately. It also leads to a good relationship with the team. "This is because the team as a whole is responsible and the team discovers and creates a solution and the route to proceed".

Maroucha explains that she takes ownership by initiating proactively activities within her projects. "This gives me freedom of movement which empowers me to be creative and to realize the best results. These opportunities are in place. I really experience the freedom within my work and that is very pleasant". Evelien adds: "This feeling of freedom gives me much more motivation give the best version of me than when someone tells me constantly what to do. This is what works for me. I am responsible and I have to take care that results are realized."

Freedom is important

The freedom you get is very important according to Maroucha. She gives the example of sprint ritmes in her team. The sprints consist of three weeks. And within this period of time results have to be realized. "In other words, you can decide for yourself when and how you work. As long as the goals and targets are achieved." At the end of a sprint Evelien is pride: "The proud feeling you get on the moment things go well because you delivered and achieved a goal".

Within Essent Evelien and her team are responsible for a part of the IT landscape. "This means that we get the responsibility and the trust of the company that we manage that part according to the expectations. We are a kind of small organization within the big Essent. This means I can perform with an entrepreneurial spirit within my own projects."
